Dr. James Hutchison
Dr James Hutchison’s group focuses on novel routes to (photo)chemistry and optoelectronics via nanophotonics. They place molecules and materials inside photonic nanostructures that enhance light-matter interactions by orders of magnitude, driving them into the ‘strong’ or polaritonic interaction regime. This can allow energy transfer between molecules over 100s of nanometres that may increase the efficiency of light-harvesting devices, and could in the future allow difficult but useful chemistry to be driven by a ‘photonic catalyst’.
